Concept

“Buchner Bründler—Buildings II” is the second monograph of Basel based architects Daniel Buchner and Andreas Bründler and their team.

This second monograph on the work of Buchner Bründler Architekten has been designed and used as an editorial workshop. An editorial workshop that facilitates interpretation and evaluation of the existing photographic documentation of the buildings, encourages experimentation with various forms of text and photograph, and thus enables the development and production of exclusive new content and images. The resulting visual material which was used as a basis for retrospective analysis of the buildings, for reconsidering and reflecting on the architecture is shown in an own chapter.

Structurally this book is divided into three main sections. The first two main chapters—“Workshop” and “Selected Buildings” act as a resonator between the architects’ existing archive materials, and the retrospective images we produced exclusively for this book in the form of photograms, technical shots, portraits, model photography, and so on. The projects are edited in identical sequence in both chapters.

The third main chapter, “Further Buildings and Projects,” presents various media from the development stages  to  from the Buchner Bründler archive, each of them given equal weight on the pages.

There is also an introductory text section with contributions by Urs Stahel, Tibor Joanelly and Ludovic Balland, discussing the connections between the book concept, Buchner Bründler's architecture, and photography.
